Did You Watch the Lost Season Finale Last Night?

We started watching Lost last night on the TiVO at around 9:45, which by the way is the perfect time to start a two hour program to skip the commercials and finish at the same time as everyone else. To me, it was the second best season finale of the Lost series. The best season finale was the first season’s ender.
There are spoilers, if you keep reading. [click to continue...]

Blu-ray New Releases for May 27th, 2008

There is good news and bad news when it comes to the Blu-ray new releases for May 27th, 2008. The bad news is that this week is pretty light on the Blu-ray new releases. The good news is that Rambo has come to Blu-ray, and not just the bad 2007 action movie Rambo, but the entire Rambo collection.
Here are the Blu-ray new releases for May 27th, 2008:
- Rambo
- Rambo 1-3 Box Set
- Rambo: First Blood
- Rambo: First Blood Part II
- Rambo III
- Dragon Ball Z: Dead Zone / The World’s Strongest
- The Air I Breathe
- Dragon Tiger Gate
- Strauss II: Die Fledermaus (The Bat)
Movies going in the Netflix queue this week: 5
With all of these Rambo movies coming out on Blu-ray, you just know that all four of them are going into our Netflix queue. I’m also adding The Air I Breathe, just because it stars Kevin Bacon.

Blu-ray New Releases For May 20th, 2008
This week was supposed to be a big one for Blu-ray releases. Paramount had plans on releases some of their catalog titles this week, that had been previously released and then pulled when they went to HD-DVD. That changed, and now those titles are expected for June 3rd. Instead, we’ll call this Nicholas Cage week, since there are four titles being released featuring our favorite cheesy action movie star.
Here are the Blu-ray new releases for May 20th, 2008:
- Anger Management (Sony)
- Company (2007) (Image)
- Face/Off (Paramount)
- National Treasure (Buena Vista)
- National Treasure/National Treasure: Book of Secrets (Two-Pack) (Walt Disney)
- National Treasure: Book of Secrets (Walt Disney)
- Nature: Desert Lions (Questar)
- Nature: In the Valley of the Wolves (Questar)
- Nature: Shark Mountain (Questar)
- Nature: Under Antarctic ice (Questar)
- Next (Paramount)
- Short Circuit (Image)
- V for Vendetta (Warner)
- WWE: Wrestlemania XXIV (WWE)
Movies that will get added to my Netflix queue: 1
I’ve already seen most of this list, so I am not jumping out of my pants to see such great flicks as Next or Anger Management. This week, my pick is National Treasure: Book of Secrets.

Netflix Set Top Box Announced

The first set top Netflix box has been announced. It is made by Roku and is receiving some decent praise from the reviewers. I am not that keen on it though, after looking at the specs.
For starters, there is a lack of HD capabilities. Sure, Netflix can’t support HD streaming yet, but at least give the box a chance. From what I have read it doesn’t look like the Roku box has a hard drive, which I would think would be a requirement for HD video streaming.
Second, and everyone agrees on this, the picture quality is worse than a DVD. I can’t imagine what that would look like on a decent HDTV. Maybe like a bad SD channel from Comcast?
While it is exciting to see another possible video source coming to fruition, it looks like this one may need a little time and a few upgrades before I’ll even consider it.

Blade Runner: The Final Cut Blu-ray

My wife is a major Harrison Ford fan. Her enjoyment of watching him in movies stems mostly from Indiana Jones and Star Wars. This weekend I set out to show her another side of Harrison Ford before we see the new Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull later this week by showing her Blade Runner: The Final Cut.
It wasn’t exactly how I’d originally planned it, since we had wait almost six months just to get the movie, btu it was worth it.
If you have never seen Blade Runner before, you should make a point to watch it. Especially on Blu-ray. I have watched it over the years, first on VHS then on DVD and seeing on Blu-ray was by far the best experience.
My wife thought that the movie was weird, and in ways she’s right. Blade Runner does have it’s 80’s “wierdness” moments. What can you expect when you have Vangelis producing your soundtrack.
The visuals on the Blu-ray version are spectacular. Everything has been remastered, and from what I remember the “Final Cut” is supposed to be Ridley Scott’s true vision for the movie.
This is definitely a movie that should go into your Netflix Queue or shopping cart (if you’re a movie buyer).
